I know that Princess Diana as a mother would have been so proud of Prince Harry for piloting the Invictus games. So many war wounded men and women come back and how hard it must be to re-integrate back into society. The games give many of these war wounded new hope and shows them that they can still live their lives through sport, whether in a wheelchair or with a prosthetic limb. It gives many camaraderie and hope and determination for the future.
The Invictus poem has been one of my favourite poems. Whenever I read it it gives me a feeling of “YES!”. This is what it does for the war wounded too. Here is the poem below.
I love this!
INVICTUS
William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeoning of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
Beautiful. xxx
